Integrated Bodywork Therapies
The Craniosacral System consists of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. It extends from the bones of the skull, face and mouth, which make up the cranium, down to the sacrum or tailbone area.
Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle hands-on method of releasing restrictions around the brain and spinal cord so your body can self-correct and free itself of pain and other health conditions and improve whole body health and performance. Because this work affects the central nervous system it has an impact on nearly every other system in your body.
Using a light touch, generally no more than the weight of a nickel, I assess the rhythm of the craniosacral system which is generated by the movement of the cerebrospinal fluid throughout this system. Changes or lack of movement in areas allow me to determine where restrictions are located in the system. Often there are restrictions in the fascial system (connective tissue throughout the body) outside of the craniosacral system that need to be released prior to accessing the craniosacral system. These fascial changes may be caused by many factors including physical or emotional trauma.
With your permission I may also include techniques inside the mouth, which are particularly helpful with TMJ and scoliosis among several other issues.
I may integrate these techniques into a Shiatsu/ShinTai session or dedicate an entire session to CST, depending on your needs.
