Shiatsu and Craniosacral Therapy

What is Dö-in?

Dö-in (Doe-een) is an Asian form of self-treatment which promotes general well-being as well as physical, mental, spiritual and energetic development.

This series of exercises involves using the hands to tap, stretch, massage or apply pressure to all areas of the body, including acupuncture points and meridians, from head to toe. A session can help to energize you if you are feeling tired or relax you if you are feeling stressed. You can perform just five minutes of the tapping work or take up to an hour with the full series.

The Dö-in series allows you to use the energy in your hands to stimulate energy along the meridians (energy channels). It strengthens areas of weakness and moves energy through areas of stagnation (where we feel tightness and pain).

Dö-in is a great way to keep you balanced between Shiatsu treatments.

Benefits of Dö-in

  • Increase energy levels, revitalize
  • Achieve relaxation
  • Relieve muscle stiffness
  • Reduce aches and pains
  • Increase flexibility

What is Qi Gong (Chi Kung)?

Qi -- Energy or life force
Gong -- Skill or Practice

Qi Gong -- The practice of cultivating energy.

Qi Gong employs simple, slow, controlled movements coordinated with breathing. This practice brings qi into the body and encourages it to flow smoothly -- freeing stagnant energy, which may cause discomfort, pain and disease.

There are many different forms of qi gong. I teach a version called the Eight Pieces of Brocade. These exercises, which are more than a thousand years old, were created by Marshall Yue Fei during the Chinese Song dynasty. "It is called brocade because brocade is a shining and beautiful cloth. When you practice these exercises regularly and correctly, it is just like you have added a shining and beautiful life force to your body."1

This is a wonderful series that introduces practitioners to qi gong. Just 10-20 minutes of this practice can generate feelings of calmness and well-being.
